DETAILS: Found on the side of the upper buttock, the glute med is an incredibly important muscle for walking, running, or any single leg exercise as it prevent the opposite side of the pelvis from dropping (hip drop)
FUNCTION: The glute med is the prime mover of abduction at the hip joint. Additionally, depending on the position of the leg, the glute med has influence of internal/external rotation and flexion/extension of the hip.
