Quadriceps

DETAILS: Made up of four muscles: The Vastus intermedius (the deepest of the quad muscles), vastus medialis (located on the inner portion of thigh, ending near the kneecap as the vastus medals oblique- essential for kneecap position), the vastus laterals (outer portion), and the rectus femoris (the most superficial of the quad muscles)

FUNCTION: Extension of the knee and proper positioning of the knee cap. Flexion of the hip (rectus femoris)

APPLICABLE EXERCISES: Squats and lunges
